Scientific Writing – The Principles

Description

This workshop supports PhD students and young researchers in areas that are challenging for many young scientists who need to produce professional texts in English. Participants get to know techniques and strategies that may be transferred to their current writing projects im-mediately and that facilitate more effective, efficient, and successful scientific writing.

Learning Outcomes

  • A professional approach to the process of scientific writing
  • Useful writing techniques for the different stages of the writing process
  • Recognising characteristics of good scientific texts and applying these in own texts
  • Organising and presenting information in a comprehensive and reader-friendly way
  • Scientific writing in English: useful resources

This workshop supports doctoral and young researchers in areas that are challenging for many young scientists who need to produce professional texts in English. Individual and group exercises, discussions, and trainer input help participants to reflect on their own approaches to writing, their problems, and possible problem solving strategies.

Participants get to know techniques and strategies that may be transferred to their current writing projects immediately and that facilitate more effective, efficient, and successful scientific writing.

Evaluation note: In this workshop an evaluation will take place.

Dr. Vera Leberecht

Dr. Vera Leberecht studied German, Intercultural Communication and Protestant Theology in Germany and Finland and received her doctorate for a thesis on communication in university consultation hours. After several years as a lecturer and later head of the English department in the Language Center at Maastricht University, she became self-employed in 2008 as a trainer and coach for meaningful writing and working in science and beyond.
