Accurate Thinking - Accurate Texts

Description

Contents:

In order to produce accurate, coherent texts, young scientists need to develop a habit of systematic, analytical thinking. In this workshop, we discuss different levels of academic thinking and reflection. We discuss what constitutes effective research questions and experiment with ways to create a well-developed "research story" or line of argument.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Knowing what I‘m doing: different levels of academic thinking (e.g., describing, analysing, evaluating, etc.);
  • Letting others know what I‘m doing: using the correct words to report my research actions and processes
  • Refining my research question to make it well thought out, specific, relevant – and manageable
  • Developing a logical, coherent line of argument

The small-group workshop is held in English and comprises individual writing exercises, small group work, plenary discussions, and short trainer inputs.

Evaluation note: In this workshop an evaluation will take place.
